Diverse storie attestano l\u2019origine della Virgen de la Altagracia nella Repubblica Dominicana, tra cui quella del canonico\u00a0<i>Lu\u00eds Ger\u00f3nimo de Alcocer<\/i>, che nel suo racconto del 1650 afferma che furono\u00a0<i>Alonso e Antonio de Trejo<\/i>, due gentiluomini di Placencia in Estremadura, i primi a portare l\u2019immagine della\u00a0<i>Madonna di Altagracia<\/i>\u00a0sull\u2019isola, nel 1506. <br \/><br \/>Incoronata da\u00a0<i>Papa Pio XI<\/i>\u00a0e da<i>\u00a0Papa Giovanni Paolo II<\/i>, la\u00a0<i>Vergine di Alta Gracia<\/i>\u00a0\u00e8 stata proclamata patrona nazionale nel 1924. Nel corso dei secoli successivi, alla\u00a0<i>Madonna di Caacup\u00e9<\/i>\u00a0furono attribuiti molti miracoli, tra i quali il ritiro delle acque del lago Ypacara\u00ed che con la grande inondazione del &#8216;600 minacciava di distruggere le popolazioni vicine. Tito pass\u00f2 la vita a studiare le arti presso diversi maestri, senza mai raggiungere l\u2019approvazione dei religiosi del tempo. Finch\u00e9 un giorno l\u2019immagine stessa inizi\u00f2 a sprigionare bagliori di luce che furono visibili a tutti. <br \/><br \/>Il sindaco di Omasuyo, a cui apparteneva Copacabana, soddisfatto dell\u2019immagine, ne ordin\u00f2 il trasferimento immediato in citt\u00e0, per la gioia di\u00a0<i>Tito Yupanqui<\/i>. La venerazione alla Virgine di Copacabana \u00e8 diffusa non solo in Bolivia, ma anche in Argentina, Brasile, Cile, Colombia e Per\u00f9 ed anche in Spagna. La storia narra che in quell\u2019epoca gli indigeni di Lumbis\u00ed desiderassero un\u2019immagine della Vergine e quindi contrattarono con lo stesso scultore spagnolo che scolp\u00ec l\u2019immagine, ma i Lumbisi cambiarono idea o non poterono pagare il prezzo concordato, fatto sta che l\u2019immagine fu riportata al laboratorio dello scultore. <br \/><br \/>Nel frattempo, gli indios di Oyacachi, incuneati nella regione montagnosa orientale, ricevettero la visita prodigiosa di una signora con il suo bambino, che per tre volte parl\u00f2 con loro, promettendo di liberarli dalla piaga delle ossa che divorava i bambini se essi in cambio avessero chiamato il missionario di El Quinche perch\u00e9 insegnasse loro la nuova religione cristiana. Fu cos\u00ec che l\u2019immagine and\u00f2 in possesso a questa trib\u00f9. <br \/><br \/>La Vergine del Quinche racchiude tutta la tradizione religiosa dell\u2019Ecuador e nel 1931 la stessa fu coronata come Patrona e Regina dell\u2019Ecuador da parte dell\u2019Arcivescovo <i>Manuel Maria Polit<\/i>. La Vergine \u00e8 infatti rappresentata con un imponente rosario di corallo mentre sorregge il bambino.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Attorno a lei,&nbsp;<i>Sant\u2019Antonio<\/i>&nbsp;da Padova e&nbsp;<i>Sant\u2019Andrea<\/i>&nbsp;con gli elementi che ne identificano chiaramente le rispettive iconografie, il saio francescano con i tre nodi e la croce decusse.
